2-Norbornene is a bridged cyclic hydrocarbon. It is a white solid with a pungent sour odor. The molecule consists of a cyclohexene ring with a methylene bridge between carbons 1 and 4. The molecule carries a double bond which induces significant ring strain and significant reactivity. It is made by two readily available hydrocarbons such as Diels-Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene and ethylene.

Increased application in medical industry drives the market .For its resistance to sterilization at higher temperatures, COC injection molded plates have seen very effective applications in the medical industry. In past few years 2-nonbornene is proving excellence in thr medical applications. However, the market have very few producers as thus results into high capital costs, time consuming and expensive process of the product specification for the final usage.
