Aluminum sulfate is a chemical compound with formula Al2(SO4)3. Anhydrous salt of aluminum sulfate is rarely available in nature as it instantly gets converted to its hydrates such as hexadecahydrate, octadecahydrate, and heptadecahydrate. Aluminum sulfate is mainly used in the purification of water as it coagulates all the suspended impurities present in the water into larger particles, which can be filtered easily. Another significant use of aluminum sulfate is in paper manufacturing to help bind the materials and neutralize the charges. Aluminum sulfate is also known as alum or papermaker’s alum in specific industries. The key market driver for the global aluminum sulfate market is the rising need for water treatment owing to the growing water pollution.

The rising population globally increases the pollution load of an individual in household sewage, which requires more amount of aluminum sulfate to clean water, therefore increasing the consumption of aluminum sulfate globally.

Key market restraint for the global aluminum sulfate market is the use of sodium silicate as an alternative to aluminum sulfate. Sodium silicate acts as an iron flocculant and an alum coagulant and aggregates all the impurities in water that can be easily filtered. Hence, it is used in water treatment.
