Butanediol Market Size, Share & Industry Analysis, By Type (1,3-Butanediol, 1,4-Butanediol, 2,3-Butanediol), By Application (1,4-Butanediol, 1,3-Butanediol, 2,3-Butanediol, Others), and Regional Forecast, 2024-2032
Report Format: PDF | Published Date: Ongoing | Report ID: FBI102321 | Status : UpcomingButanediols are chemical compounds that are used in various chemical formulations and polymers. These chemicals are manufactured using different technologies that use different raw material. Bio-based technologies have begun to surface and are expected to lower the cost of production of these butanediols.
On the basis of type, Butanediol Market is segmented into 1,3-Butanediol, 1,4-Butanediol, 2,3-Butanediol. On the basis of Application, Butanediol Market is segmented into 1,3-Butanediol applications (Cosmetics & Personal Care, Polymers, Paints & Coatings, Food & Beverages and Others), 1,4-Butanediol applications (PBT, THF, GBL, Polyurethane and others), 2,3-Butanediol applications (Plastics, Food Additive, Intermediate Chemicals, Cosmetics and others).
From a geographical standpoint, the market is categorised into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa.
Key market Drivers- Butanediols have wide adoption in various end-use industries ranging from polymers, paints & coatings to food & beverages. 1,4-butanediol is extensively used in polymer AND CHEMICAL production such as PBT, THF, GBL, polyurethanes. THF consumes around 35% of the total 1,4 butanediol produced. THF has wide range of applications in cement, textiles, cosmetics, packaging, plastics, adhesives and others which drives the market growth at healthy rates.
Key market restraints- With increasing environmental awareness amongst developed and developing countries in the world, the governing bodies are effectively framing & implementing stringent regulations closely monitoring the exposure of hazardous chemicals. 1,4-butanediol is annually produced in large quantities of several million tons in the world and many people abuse its use as recreational drugs directly or indirectly. Due to this reason it has been reviewed several times by the governing bodies to avoid its exploitation. In 2017, European commission notified WTO about the planned amendments to the EU regulations on food contact plastic materials. These plastics also included the plastics that used 1,3-butanediol feedstock.
Key Players Covered:
The global Butanediol Market is fairly fragmented with number of global giants operating in the market. Some of the key players in the global butanediol market include- BASF SE, Shanxi Sanwei Group, Dairen Chemicals, Ashland, Daicel Corporation, Mitsubishi Chemicals, LyondellBasell Industries N.V., Penta Manufacturing company, Godavari Biorefineries Ltd, OXEA GmbH, SHOWA DENKO K.K., Global Bio-chem Technology Group Company Limited, Novamont, LanzaTech and others.

Regional Analysis:
On geographical basis, Butanediol Market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa. Asia-Pacific dominates in the consumption of butanediol and its end-use products on the back of huge population and markets growth in the developing countries in the region. The region is expected to witness healthy growths over the forecast period owing to the developments in the markets and increasing end-users. North America is the second largest consumer of butanediols and is expected to experience moderate growth over the forecast period due to the slow-down economic growth.
Europe region is also expected to witness moderate growth with slight high growths in central & eastern European regions. Latin America market is expected to witness healthy growth over the forecast period with the improving socio-economic conditions in the region. Middle East and Africa region accounts to less than 5% of the global butanediol consumption and the region is poised to witness moderate to high growth over the forecast period on the back of rising disposable income and rising middle class.
