A flight data recorder (FDR) is a tool that digitally records an aircraft’s flying characteristics, such as airspeed, altitude, heading, and pitch. FDRs are called “black boxes” because of their regular black paint job. In the case of an incident or collision, the primary goal of an FDR is to provide information to accident investigators. Investigators can identify the cause of a crash and maybe stop further accidents by examining the data from an FDR. With the advancement of Digital FDR, rectifying the previous collision history is a more precise and trained advantage. This unit is mounted at the aircraft’s tail, away from any engine’s potential crushing forces. DFDR is also withstanding with 20000 ft. underwater for 30 days.

Key Market Insights:

With the increase of aircraft accidental cases, every Govt. is concerned with certain rules and regulations for aircraft safety. ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) mandated some rules for DFDR installation as per aircraft types. So, it was a clear driving force for the Digital FDR manufacturers to maximize their business.

Also, the growth of the DFDR market is proportional to the aircraft fleet size. Therefore, increasing air passenger density drives the DFDR market in the forecasted period.

Moreover, due to the technological boom, now Digital FDR device adds more efficiency and reliability for important monitoring systems with the arrival of solid-state drives, eliminating previously used EM tapes, drive motors, drive belts etc. Also, it records data digitally, reducing the attenuation of signal and local interference during data transmission. Again, the rise of real-time data analytics in the aerospace industry further acts as a market driver of the DFDR market.

But the installation price of many advanced electronic devices is very high, aggregating a high cost to make Digital FDR, which is a constraint for this market. Also, it will take more time to integrate all parts, which can’t match the increasing demand of the aircraft industry.

Impact of COVID-19 on the Digital Flight Data Recorder Market:

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the Digital Flight Data Recorder market due to reduced air passenger travelling during the pandemic. Hence, a sharp decline in revenue in the aviation industry restricted the players from investing further in new aircraft and aircraft safety measures, negatively impacting the DFDR market. Also, global disruption in the supply chain industry resulted in reduced production and delayed delivery. But, as the industry is normal again, the DFDR market is also experiencing high growth in the coming years.

Key Insights:

The report will cover the following key insights:

  • The report analyzes a detailed industry overview, including qualitative and quantitative information.

  • It analyzes an overview and forecast of the Digital Flight Data Recorder Market based on various segments.

  • The report also analyzes comprehensive PEST analysis for all five regions, i.e. North America, Europe, APAC, and the rest of the world, after evaluating economic, political and technological factors affecting the impact of the Digital Flight Data Recorder Market in these regions.

Regional Analysis:

North American region, basically the U.S., has captured the most significant market share in the digital flight data recorder market due to their frequent domestic airline services and the presence of prominent key players. This market is highly consolidated, with a limited number of top players operating globally in the North American region. Due to technical advancements, these companies captured the market very fast. Slovenia and Germany have a fair number of manufacturers who deals globally to deliver high-rated advanced DFDRs.

Asia Pacific region also has the potential to be the highest growing region due to increasing Govt. policies in China, India and South Korea. Japan’s government has been focusing on aeroplane safety measures with technologically advanced DFDRs that can withstand extreme temperature fluctuations.

Key Players Covered:

The report includes the profiles of key players such as Honeywell International Inc., L3 Technologies Inc., General Electric, Curtiss-Wright Defence Solutions, Hensoldt Sensors, Flight Data Systems, Universal Avionics Systems Corporation, Appareo Systems, Aviage Systems, LX Navigation, Kanardia D.O.O, and others.
