Nitrogen filling systems are mechanical pressure systems that consist of a regulator and filling hose, ensuring proper and highly effective filling of hydraulic accumulators, dampers, fire suppression systems, and other gas units. It does not require supplementary energy driven directly by the nitrogen bottle supply. Nitrogen filling systems have a prominent application across industries such as aerospace and defense, aviation, power generation, healthcare, and others (fire suppression). The increasing number of products in aerospace & defense, power generation, healthcare, and other applications across the globe is driving the market growth.

Nitrogen, which is the 7th most plentiful element on Earth, is a natural substance. The element can take up to 78% of the air. In addition, it is an industrial gas that is taken out of the air for nitrogen extraction. The element is made up of a nitrogen generator, which uses air to make nitrogen. The growth of the nitrogen filling market is likely to be driven by its increasing demand from the food and beverage sectors, as well as development that promotes sustainability. In contrast, the growth of the nitrogen generators market is expected to be driven by the increased demand for investment in the semiconductor industry and the expanding chemical sector.

The global nitrogen filling systems market is estimated to grow steadily with expanding food packaging and processing facilities. Further, there is rising investment in automotive tire inflation technology requiring N2 gases for effective cooling and long runs to contribute heavily to the market. The market is highly competitive, with a number of players offering advanced technology and efficient packaging solutions. The market is dominated by the subtle demand for products in the food and beverage sector, pharmaceuticals, and electronics, which has led to a competitive environment where companies continuously innovate to target new segments so as to secure more significant market share.

As per secondary research, the nitrogen-filling machine industry has not had any new machines launched in the past half decade. However, the technology is being replaced by vacuum flushing in the food packaging sector. Many of the players offering nitrogen-filling machines have primarily shifted their focus to the development of hydrogen-filling systems and equipment. Thus, minor growth is expected in the long term in the nitrogen-filling sector. However, hydrogen filling systems are expected to record an escalated demand owing to the increased emphasis of governments on clean energy infrastructure and easy manufacturing.

The demand for nitrogen-filling systems faced extreme pressure for business operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Declined infrastructure investments in the power generation infrastructure and healthcare units affected the sales of nitrogen-filling systems. The declining sales of automobiles also affected the global business. However, post-pandemic the demand for nitrogen gas tanks was restored across the food and beverage industry as it resumed operations.

Filling Type Analysis:

The nitrogen-filling system does not require additional energy. It can be fed directly from the nitrogen bottle. A hydraulic accumulator is the most prominent type in a nitrogen filling system. It is a pressurized reservoir in which incompressible hydraulic fluid is held under pressure by an external source. The external source can be a weight, compressed air, or a spring. It is a vessel that contains a membrane or piston to confine and compress an inert gas (usually nitrogen). Hydraulic fluid is retained on the other side of the membrane—the accumulator in hydraulic equipment stores hydraulic energy as a car battery stores electrical energy.
