KEY MARKET INSIGHTS

The buffer module is an accessory to the 24 VDC regulated power supply. The power from the DC circuit is stored in a capacitor and then used in a power failure or overload that needs to be handled. Machines and systems can easily be equipped with buffer modules for use in unstable power circuits worldwide.

Although power failures can cause costly damage and downtime, most will only last for a fraction of a second. The buffer module is an auxiliary electrical device that solves these faults by providing a DC "bridge" power supply. The benefits of buffer modules abound. The buffer module ensures a constant DC power supply for critical components. In addition, they can provide additional power under peak load conditions without the need for a large power supply. Finally, buffer modules can eliminate the need for more expensive, larger, and more complex UPS systems for many configurations.

  • Buffer modules are rated for specific voltages and buffer times that depend in part on the attached load's ampere rating. For instance, a 24V buffer module may last 300 ms at 20 A or 650 ms at 10 A, or 20 sec at 0.2 A.

The buffer module can only work for a brief period. Most of these periods are sufficient, but if a power outage occurs, it can cause severe downtime. Also, some buffer modules are powered at a voltage slightly lower than their rated power. For example, a 24V buffer module can provide just 22.5V power at times.

The growth of virtualization is expected to become a significant factor in developing the power and energy sectors during the forecast period. Due to the increasing adoption of network and multi-cloud upgrades during the forecast period, these regional markets' power and energy businesses are expected to grow.

  • According to research by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and The Nielson Company, around 65.6% of the total world population is an active internet user until March 31, 2021. This internet usage penetration rate shows 1,331.9% from 2000.

  • According to a report by Flexera, a U.S.-based software firm, 93% of firms have a multi-cloud strategy.  Almost 87% of companies have a hybrid cloud strategy.

IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON THE BUFFER MODULES MARKET

The buffer modules market is expected to recover at a moderate pace from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic due to increasing industrial operations post the pandemic.

  • According to the International Energy Agency, there was a 57% year-on-year reduction in fuel consumption due to the reduction of transport in 2020. The total energy investment faced a 20% decline year on year.

As the industrial landscape will rapidly recover due to the reduction of the COVID-19 threat, the demand for uninterrupted energy will rise, enhancing the demand for buffer modules. According to the Indian Power Ministry, there was a 24.35% year-on-year rise in March 2021.

KEY INSIGHTS

The report will cover the following key insights:

  • Recent Advancements in Buffer Modules

  • Key Industry Trends

  • Regulatory Landscape for Buffer Modules

  • Key Industry Developments (Mergers, Acquisitions, and Partnerships)

  • Impact of COVID-19 on the Market

ANALYSIS BY MOUNTING

Based on mounting, the global buffer modules market can be divided into DIN rail-mounted and unmounted. The DIN rail-mounted segment will dominate the market. It is a 35mm mounting rail, also known as a top hat rail, support, or carrier rail. This type of mounting has been established worldwide and has been adopted as an international and European standard. DIN rails are found in most industrial applications around the world. It has become a permanent component of cabinets, distribution boxes, and machinery. Selection of available electrical parts (power supplies, circuit breakers, relays, and industrial PCs.)

REGIONAL ANALYSIS

Rising IT spending and data center growth worldwide, coupled with continued growth in electrification in the Asia-Pacific region, are driving demand. In terms of global market growth, North America and Europe are expected to follow the Asia-Pacific market. Asia-Pacific is expected to maintain its control of the global market for buffer modules. In the next five years, the growing power supply and demand gap is expected to increase its adoption rate in the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, which will lead to the continued growth of the global market for buffering modules. Due to the increasing demand for buffering systems in developing economies such as China and India, Asia-Pacific will lead the market.

KEY INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENTS

  • In 2020, Schneider Electric released the ABL8BUF24400 buffer module. When combined with one of the ABL8RPx24xx0 or ABL8WPS24x00 universal power supplies, this buffer module limits the impact of brief voltage interruptions on the power supply by tens of from milliseconds to 1 second, storing and recovering enough energy over some time.

  • On March 19, 2021, TDK Lambda released the ZBM20 12V/15V/24V 20A buffer module. It provides short-term peak/hold power for loads connected to 12V, 15V, and 24VDC ACDC power supplies.
