Micro-perforated Food Packaging is a polymeric film that is microperforated for the exchange of gases in order to keep its contents (food) fresh over a period of time. The micro-perforations allow the optimum exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide and help retain water vapours that facilitates food to remain fresh and extend its shelf-life. Laser technology is used to make these perforations. With the change in the wavelength, the number of perforations can be changed and thus, the performance of the packaging film.
The demand for Micro-perforated Food Packaging is substantially increasing with the rising population and increasing need for fresh food. With rapid urbanization in Asia-Pacific, the demand for freshly packaged food is rapidly increasing. Also, rising disposable income in developing countries is boosting the consumption of packed food in these regions. Moreover, due to the benefits offered by micro-perforated food packaging, packed food can easily be transported over long distances without any change in food property.
